Corporation of Delta's Ban on the Cosmetic use of Chemical Pesticides

Here at Earthwise, we’ve worked as a community resource for pesticide-free gardening for 15 years. We support the Corporation of Delta’s ban on cosmetic pesticides. Since November 2010, the use of chemical herbicides, insecticides and fungicides for “cosmetic” purposes has been prohibited on all private and public properties in Delta.

At Earthwise, we value sustainability and community-building, and focus on providing educational tools to highlight organic, pesticide-free alternatives to conventional gardening, and yard maintenance. We emphasize a holistic, ecological approach to sustaining beautiful plants that are healthy for the environment, the wildlife it hosts, and for our communities.

Check out our Earthwise Garden learning resources or stop in and see our staff at our Boundary Bay farm and learning centre.

Want more detailed information? We offer courses, workshops, and Market Days that focus on holistic approaches to getting beautiful gardens and healthy crops without herbicides, insecticides, or fungicides.

What’s okay to use on your lawn and garden?
Exemptions do exist under the bylaw and examples include:
  • certain horticulture oils,
  • soaps,
  • acetic acid (vinegar),
  • diatomaceous earth,
  • corn gluten meal and
  • nematodes

Read and carefully follow instructions for dosages, application methods and treatment intervals.  If you use a lawn and garden care service, be sure they are accredited or offer a pesticide-free program.
