Earthwise Farm

                                                           Our Farm

The Earthwise Farm is a part of a community based agriculture movement that is revolutionizing our food systems.  The one acre market garden not only produces the most diverse produce in Tsawwassen but it is also cultivating the next generation of BC farmers. Our emphasis on education has sprouted an on farm education apprenticeship for future farmers.  We are educating young farmers that farming can be a viable option.

The Earthwise Farm is strategically situated at Vancouver's urban-rural edge in Tsawwassen, a community with a strong agricultural heritage.  The Farm enhances the productivity and environmental values of existing  agricultural land at the urban rural boundary.  Although much of Delta's land is farmed residents have limited opportunity to purchase locally grown produce or to see first hand how our food is grown.  The Earthwise Farm raises public awareness about the value of local food production by allowing visitors to tour an operating farm, purchase produce where it is grown and learn about the environmental benefits of sustainable farming practices.

Towards A New Urban Agriculture

As a means to encourage small scale, sustainable farming close to urban centres, and re-establish personal connections to the land where our food is grown, the Earthwise Society is working in partnership with local community groups and agencies to develop the farm as a learning center for urban agriculture. Situated at its field site in Boundary Bay in South Delta, the aims of the farm are:

  • to offer farm-based learning opportunities;

  • to increase community awareness regarding issues of sustainable food production, bringing together farming, health, and environmental interests

  • to provide the community with organically grown produce; and

  • to integrate agriculture into the curriculum of Delta’s schools.
