Volunteer

Volunteer at Earthwise!

Volunteers are key at Earthwise Society. Our dedicated team is essential to maintaining and operating our gardens and farms and supporting our crucial food security programs.  Volunteers are truly the backbone of our organization.  Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb, new to gardening, or simply curious about how to give back to your community, there’s a place for you at Earthwise!

We pair newcomers with seasoned gardeners and growers, so all experience levels are welcome! Volunteers who commit to a minimum of 40 hours a year are eligible to attend many of our educational programs, absolutely free.  We have volunteer opportunities at both our Delta and our Agassiz locations.

Garden Crew

Got a green thumb? Join our garden crew and keep the garden beautiful by helping out with all aspects of garden maintenance. Work one on one with our garden staff, or join our Monday and Thursday groups for a more social atmosphere.

Farm Hands
Is growing food your thing? For some people, gardening is all about food. Our Farm Hands help with all aspects of farming at Earthwise, from planting seeds to pulling weeds to harvesting for the CSA and Farm Cart.

The Fix-Its
Handy with a hammer? Join our fix-it team of individuals who enjoy working to beautify, repair, organize, and upgrade around the property. See something that needs to be done? We welcome your creative ideas.

Food Security
Want to give back to the community in a tangible way? Get involved with our food security initiatives! Help prepare donated Harvest Boxes for families in need, join our Shared Harvest gleaning program and harvest excess fruit, or get involved in FoodMesh, a surplus food rescue program that helps divert surplus food from local grocery stores.

Garden Buddies Mentors
Do you enjoy helping seniors feel more connected? Garden Buddies is a gardening together therapeutic horticulture program that increases physical activity and social connections for seniors by involving them in shared gardening and nature based activities at the garden and in the community. Volunteers receive training as mentors.

Program Assistants
Do you have a special skill to share? Assist with our community programs for people of all ages! This could include giving garden tours, assisting with children’s programs, or running workshops for adults.

Community Outreach and Events
Are you a party person? Do you love event planning?  Every year, Earthwise Society hosts a series of special events at the Earthwise Garden. Help us plan, promote, or staff these events! If fundraising is your thing, ask about joining our Events and Fundraising Committee. This is an opportunity to meet your neighbours and enjoy being part of a community celebration.

Tell us!
We have outlined some of the areas where volunteers have played important roles in the past. We are always open to your own ideas and interests. If you see a way you would like to help us that isn’t listed here, let’s talk! Maybe we’ve just been waiting for your suggestion!

Corporate Volunteer Teams

We would like to thank all our corporate and other team volunteers who have made such an excellent contribution to the garden over the years!  Ricoh is one of our regular corporate volunteer teams. Always hardworking and eager to lend a hand, their contribution is much appreciated!
