Family Harvest Box Program

The Family Harvest Box Program provides low-income families in Delta with healthy food and essential skills and education for healthy living.

Program Description

The Family Harvest Box Program connects disadvantaged Delta families with organic food, sustainable farming, and healthy eating through active learning at the Earthwise Farm.

The Family Harvest Box Program aims to make organic food more accessible. The program provides fresh, seasonal vegetables, resources on growing food organically, and information on how to turn harvests into tasty, healthy meals.

Activities

Participants learn hands-on about growing organic food. Working with Earthwise staff and volunteers, they participate in harvesting, and learn how to prepare and enjoy freshly harvested produce.

Participating families receive a Weekly Harvest Box of fresh, organic produce valued at $25. The program is offered once a week, from 9 am until 1 pm, for 20 weeks, Early June through October.

Children

Families are encouraged to learn together! Children over 3 can harvest with their parents, or join our Children’s Gardening Program, led by Earthwise staff and volunteers.

Recipients and Details
Harvest boxes are distributed weekly to four families. Families may sign up for as many sessions as they would like, space permitting.

Bus tickets for transit to and from the Earthwise Farm are provided.

Delta Food Coalition
Earthwise Society is the lead agency with the Delta Food Coalition (DFC), a network of community based organizations working together to address food security issues in Delta. Active members include DeltaAssist, Delta Boy’s and Girl’s Club, and Delta Farmland and Wildlife Trust.

DFC member agencies recruit participants from their client groups, targeting populations in Jarvis, Kennedy, and Ladner West through community notices and mailouts.
