Sustainable Resources 12 – Agriculture

An Independent Directed Studies Program at the Earthwise Farm

studentsWhere does food come from?
Do we have enough?
How can we make food production sustainable?

Sustainable Resources 12 Agriculture uses active learning at the Earthwise Farm to help Grade 11 and 12 students explore the answers to these and other questions. This unique program focuses on the current trends in agriculture and their impacts on local and global sustainability.

Through a combination of facilitated group discussions, assigned readings, and active participation in farm activities, students are supported in exploring areas of interest to them. Students experience all aspects of food production from planting seeds to harvesting and preparing fresh produce, and sharing food with others.

Our Agricultural Roots

Delta is a community with a strong agricultural heritage – we live surrounded by farms. In the past, young people learned about farming by taking part in the activities of growing food at home.
