Earthwise Network for Women in Agriculture

According to the 2006 Census of Agriculture by Statistics Canada, just over 25% of farm operators are women. To both support and encourage women’s participation in agriculture, the Earthwise Society, with funding from the Investment Agriculture Foundation of British Columbia, is piloting a regional mentoring program to connect women in agriculture. The aim of the program is to connect women considering a career in agriculture or those who have just started out with women who have established careers in the following agricultural-related fields:

  • Agricultural business
  • Agricultural education
  • Farm management
  • Greenhouse management
  • Horticulture
  • Landscape architecture or design
  • Sustainable agriculture

This is how it works…

The mentoring program is free and is open to women in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley who are entering or have recently entered the agricultural field.

Participants can apply to the program by filling out the General Application form

Registration may be:

  • in person at the Earthwise Society field office in Boundary Bay at 6400 3rd Avenue, South Delta,

Mentoring began in November 2007 and we are currently accepting applicants on a case-by-case basis. The frequency of mentoring exchanges will vary but could entail as much as 20 hours if undertaken over the entire eight month period. Mentoring times will be determined by the mentees and their mentors at the outset of their early meeting(s).
