Earthwise Agassiz Outdoor School

We are excited to bring you another season of Outdoor School at Earthwise Agassiz! This program is designed with homeschoolers in mind, providing a unique experiential learning opportunity across 8 weeks. Each session runs from 9 am to noon, and students will take part in engaging, hands-on learning activities to encourage excitement and discovery. Weekly themes focus on the interconnection between sustainable farming and environmental stewardship. Set at Earthwise Agassiz’s beautiful site, this place-based learning program will be sure to instill a long-lasting sense of appreciation for our natural environment. Itinerary- runs each Wed from April 10-May 29

Week 1- Habitat Hike: Earthwise Agassiz showcases several types of ecosystems. Learn who lives here and the importance of biodiversity!

Week 2- Along the Stream: Wetlands, streams and lakes, oh my! This session is all about water and the ways freshwater moves around the Harrison watershed.

Week 3- Compost Craze: Soil is the foundation of healthy farms and forests. This is a chance to get your hands dirty and learn what it takes to prepare the farm for planting. There may even be a chance to plant a seed or two!

Week 4– Invaders of the Forest: What is a native species and what is an invasive species? Learn how to tackle these invaders of the forest with hands-on learning and plant identification.

Week 5- Pollinator Power: All about the benefits of birds, bees and butterflies! How can we help our pollinating friends in their important roles in our environment?

Week 6- Farming with Nature: How can farms and nature work together? Learn all about farming using organic and sustainable practices and discover where our food comes from.

Week 7- Climate Change Champions: Our climate is changing, but we aren’t in it alone! What is a rain garden, what does it mean to be drought tolerant and how can we work together as climate champions to make a difference?

Week 8- A Forest of Food: Food doesn’t just grow on farms. Our Food Forest is meant as a community resource to connect with natural ecosystems and the gifts they provide. Learn about seasonal eating, sharing with wildlife and preserving fresh resources.
