EcoTour Field Trips at Earthwise Agassiz

Elementary school teachers, would you like to bring your class to participate in a hands-on learning session at Earthwise Agassiz teaching farm? Field trips are based on our Outdoor School programs, and teachers may choose from a variety of topics.  Bring your students, and explore our diverse ecosystems! These excursions are ideal for children from K-5, and can be modified for older grades.  Field trips are approximately 1 1⁄2 hours long. Cost per class is $75.  Morning classes start at 9:30, finishing up around 11:00; afternoon classes begin at 12:30, winding up by 2:00.  Choose your day and time, and please let us know if you need your experience further customized, we will do our best to accommodate requests! Pollinators- The Buzz About Bees:   Learn all about pollinators and why they are so important. Tour our demonstration garden and identify pollinator-friendly plants. What makes a good pollinator plant?  What do pollinators do?

Habitat Hike on the Farm: Explore the many different animal habitats and ecosystems that the farm offers. What is  biodiversity ? Why is conservation so important? This workshop will include an in-depth discovery session to spot different habitats and search for animals that might live there.

The World of Soil- Compost Craze: Delve into the world of soil and compost building. Why is compost important in farming and growing food?  Students will learn what plants need to thrive, the importance of bugs and insects in composting, and why habitat conservation is critical.

Sustainable Farming Fun:  Let’s learn about sustainable farming and climate change while exploring the Earthwise farm! What is a weed anyway? What is a seed?  Learn about companion planting, the importance of crop rotation and diversity, heirloom varieties, and more.  Food security and food systems will also be discussed.

Wetlands and Water:   Earthwise Agassiz features stream systems that have newly restored wetland ecosystems. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of riparian and wetland habitats for wildlife and water health. Learn about the unique native plants and animals supported by this magical ecosystem.

Middle School/ High School: Preserving Freshwater Landscapes: This EcoTour is designed with older learners in mind and explores the magic of our local freshwater ecosystems and the importance of water conservation.
